The first chart onshows the wait time for family-based visas. The F2 category is for spouses of permanent residents and it shows a date of 15 April 15. That means that the visas given out in February 2017 were applied for in April of 2015 — a wait of about 2 years. That doesn’t necessarily mean that if you apply now you will have the same wait time, but it is a pretty good estimate.
The reason for the wait time is that only a certain number of visas are given out every year and the applications received usually outnumber the amount of visas given, creating a log jam.
