My answer to Is it possible to remain anonymous as the owner of a controversial internet startup?
Answer by Raad Ahmed:
It is possible to remain completely anonymous, but you would probably have to incorporate your startup in another country that has laws that will allow for anonymous ownership. In the US, there are some state laws that will give you some protection, but remaining completely anonymous is tough to do.
For example, if you incorporate in Delaware as an LLC, you will not be required to put your name in the public record. All that is required is the name of the company, the address of the office, and the name of the registered agent. The registered agent will be your representative in Delaware and doesn’t have to be the owner. So, your name won’t be in the public record tied to the company.
So, that is a way you can create the company without using your name. The next part of your question is a lot more complicated, though. When it comes to actually running your company, it will be very hard for you to do so without exposing yourself as the owner. In short, because you will have to come into contact with a lot of people. There are a lot of connections that need to be made and people that you will have to meet. Especially in this day and age, it will be hard for you to keep your name completely separate from your company.
Your concern is fair, though, and you can take steps to be “more anonymous.” I would suggest that you consult with an attorney to develop a strategy that work for you.
