Do I need a privacy policy for my iOS app?

There’s a good chance you need a privacy policy. This is taken from the Apple App Store Guidelines:

(i) Apps that collect user data must have a privacy policy and secure user consent for the collection. This includes—but isn’t limited to—apps that implement HealthKit or other health/medical technologies, HomeKit, Keyboard extensions, Apple Pay, include a login, or access user data from the device (e.g. location, contacts, calendar, etc.).

Seeing how you probably need a privacy policy, you should make sure that it accurately covers your business. A well-written privacy policy makes users feel confident visiting your website/app because it clearly outlines how your service will collect and use visitors personal information. You want a privacy policy that is created from scratch and is specific to your business. There are simply too many variables that go into play to use a standard document, and an experienced lawyer can help you create one that caters to your particular needs.

If you collect information without authorization or a policy stating what you do with that information, then you could be in for a rude awakening. There are plenty of disclosure requirements for this type of information and there is essentially no reason not to create and include a privacy policy on your website. Of course, the exact implications of receiving a fine will depend on the country/state of where you are located. But regardless of the severity, it won’t be a good look for your business.
